With your generous gift we purchased two much-needed items for the Neonatal ICU:
- An $8,000 bed for preemies which mimics the skin to skin contact that calms them so well. It keeps their temperature at a constant 37 degrees C, allowing them to concentrate on gaining weight as well as further developing critical lung function.
- An $8,500 blanket warmer with nano-tech properties which keep the blankets warmer, longer.
- The remaining $11,000 was given to the Stollery’s Child Life bereavement program which guides parents in helping their children in understanding death in an age-appropriate way. In doing this work kids can do crafts like plaster of paris molds of loved ones holding hands and drawing pictures of what their feelings are telling them. Parents need grief support, too. Child Life helps parents remember their lost little one with silver jewelry pieces featuring the child’s hand, foot or finger print – a beautiful keepsake to keep close to them.
